The government of Mexico City has announced a reduction in crime levels in the city. Head of Government Clara Brugada stated this during the presentation of the monthly security report. Security is the main task of the government, especially with the FIFA World Cup approaching, which begins on June 11. "Security is one of the most important demands from citizens, which is why it is one of our priorities," she declared. According to the authorities, a decrease in crime has been recorded in March. For instance, the number of homicides fell by 8% compared to 2025 and by 58% compared to 2019. Secretary of Security Pablo Vázquez Camacho reported that 9,916 people were arrested for serious crimes, and 39 criminal cells operating in different boroughs were dismantled. "The downward trend in crime, and mainly homicides, is consolidating," he emphasized. A decrease was also noted in crimes such as vehicle theft. It was also reported that 62 high-priority targets, who were wanted for various crimes and led different criminal cells, were arrested.
